Library session with Professor Maria Kiriakova
What I learned during the library session with Professor Maria Kiriakova was how to use the John Jay library website to access different sources. When accessing the John Jay library, I learned to search for articles, books or media using John Jay College’s One Search Data Base. There, you can narrow your search and even find peer reviewed journals.  Something interesting on the library page was the Database subject list. If one’s topic is about a broader subject, one will look for that subject in the list and will be met with a list of different data bases one can use to find information on their topic. On the Lloyd Sealy library page, one can also search through popular data bases such as Gale, EBSCO, and JSTOR.

One of the few data bases that Professor Kiriakova showed us on the screen was Gale. She mentioned Gale would give us encyclopedia knowledge, but it would not have scholarly journals. She also showed us EBSCO, which is a research data base that includes scholarly journals and would lead us to other data bases within itself. Finally, she showed us JSTOR. On this site, one can look up topics briefly. The research tools were extremely beneficial because if there is a book that I find in one of these databases, there is a chance that it might be in the library.
